APPEAL No. 2
Outings for Disabled Children
ABOUT / MEDIA / DONATE / DONORS / RESULTS
Start Date: 26 May 2008
Closing Date: 26 October 2009
This appeal is for a series of five day trips for disabled children in Armenia aged 4-15yrs. We will be organising a day excursion for different groups of children undergoing treatment at the Children's Republican Rehabilitation Centre in Yerevan. These children come from various regions of Armenia, such as Kotayk, Gegharkunik, Armavir, Ararat.
The children suffer from such conditions as cerebral palsy, double hemiparesis and spastic tetraparesis. Cerebral palsy is a generic term used to describe a group of conditions that cause movement difficulties. The main symptoms affect the muscles in one or more parts of the body, and the condition is caused by damage or faulty development in a part of the brain that controls movement and co-ordination.
Depending on the type of cerebral palsy and the area of brain affected, patients may be unable to walk, move, talk, eat, or play in the same way as normal people.
However, as with any other children, those youngsters who suffer from cerebral palsy have feelings and want to enjoy a childhood full of joy and excitement - even if it is a day trip to a park, or a ride on a merry-go-round.
We have so far organised three outings, and our last trip to "Mankakan Erkatughi" was very successful. Following a request from the Rehabilitation Centre, we have launched this appeal to cover 5 trips in total.
With as little as £150 ($300) it is possible to organise a coach outing for more than 30 people and give children and their parents an opportunity to take a break and enjoy themselves, without having to worry about their usual concerns for a while.
Seeing a smile on a child's face is its own reward, and you will be able to view the results of your donations on the results page as and when each trip is completed. If you would like to sponsor a further series of trips, or even a single trip for disabled children at any time, please contact us.
Your financial assistance will be much appreciated.
