APPEAL No. 4
English Tuition & Performance
ABOUT / MEDIA / DONATE / DONORS / RESULTS
Start Date: 25 January 2008
Closing Date: 25 June 2008
This project is designed to sponsor an English teacher's trip to Armenia. Ms Maja Brand visited and taught English in Armenia in 2007, at the "Fridtjof Nansen" (former "Houys") children's home in Gyumri. English lessons over the summer period are organised for individuals as well as for classes, and include the provision of arts & crafts, singing, and theatre studies.
This project is the first in a proposed program whereby English teachers or even students who wish to teach English as a foreign language in Armenia can be supported financially to undertake the trip.
See the 'More Information' link at the bottom of this page for the financial facts.
Many of the children at the children's home are interested in theatre studies, and such activities are a great way to encourage children to learn English. Moroever, the opportunity to perform in English helps to boost their self-confidence.
One of the children's recent achievements was performing at the Nran Hatik Children’s Theater Festival in Yerevan where they won a prize of distinction.
The opportunity to participate in an intensive course in English is not often available to residents of children's homes, but any improvement in their standard of English widens the childrens' outlook and helps their future prospects.
