APPEAL No. 9
Assistance to Blind Students- Dictaphone

ABOUT / MEDIA / DONATE / DONORS / RESULTS

Start Date: 01 September 2008
Closing Date: 01 November 2008

Elmira Harutyunyan is 19 years old and suffers from myopia (-19). She can hardly discern anything with her eyesight. Born in 1990, she is a 2nd year student at the University of Urartu.

Elmira's father is also visually impared, which makes it difficult for him to find employment and maintain the family. Elmira felt unconfortable talking about her difficulties and problems. However, she did tell us that a dictaphone would assist her in her studies. Although a small device, a dictaphone can be handy and help her record lectures and revise them at home.
The major challenge facing visually impaired students in the educational environment is the overwhelming mass of visual material to which they are continually exposed in textbooks, class outlines, class schedules, chalkboards writing, etc. In addition, the increase in the use of films, videotapes, computers, laser disks, and television adds to the volume of visual material to which they have only limited access.
Therefore, even such a small equipment as dictaphone can be very effective tool in the life of a visually impared student.
